Then there will be no Women’s World Cup in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany? Brazilian bid scores higher | World Cup Football

--

Brazil seems to be the favorite to host the Women’s World Cup in 2027 instead of the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. According to a FIFA evaluation committee, both remaining bids are suitable for organizing the tournament, but Brazil receives a higher score with 4 out of 5 points than the bid of Belgium, among others (3.7). Brazil is the favorite, especially when it comes to stadiums and legal issues.

The evaluation committee mentions the short distances between host cities and the “very good” infrastructure as an advantage of the Belgian-Dutch-German bid. It also has the support of national governments. But “the proposed stadiums have a smaller capacity, which means they will need to have a high occupancy rate to surpass the attendance records of the 2023 edition of the tournament,” and that is a drawback, according to FIFA.

Furthermore, the World Football Association committee is concerned about the changes that countries have made to FIFA’s standard registration documents. This could saddle FIFA with additional costs. “But these risks can be limited if the organizers and other stakeholders actively cooperate with FIFA to meet the requirements,” the committee qualifies.

In Brazil, more investment in infrastructure is needed, but FIFA is more enthusiastic about the proposed stadiums. “They are built for the biggest international football tournaments, having hosted the 2014 (men’s) World Cup in 2014.” The committee also reflects on the fact that an allocation to Brazil would mean the first Women’s World Cup in South America. “That could have a huge impact on women’s football in the region.”
