Registrations for the 20 kilometers through Brussels started on March 13. “Normally, that period lasted until April 26,” says Carine Verstraeten, secretary general of the non-profit organization SI Brussels Promotions, organizer of the event. “But due to the massive interest, we felt obliged to close registrations on April 10.”

Today, Thursday May 2 from 9 am, it was still possible to register for one of the last hundreds of bib numbers. But even those who were quick, in many cases, turned out to be worth the effort. “Almost immediately, all remaining places were full,” says Verstraeten. “As a result, some people were no longer able to open the registration window.”

This is also evident from the reactions on social media. Several interested parties indicated that they had not even had the opportunity to click on the registration link. “On the one hand, we are very happy with the success,” Verstraeten continues. “But we also think it is a great pity that so many people missed out on a place. We will work on a solution for the 2025 edition.”

Increasing the number of registrations is not an option. “We currently have 40,000 participants. That is the limit for the course. For example, people walk through the Louise tunnels, but they have been narrowed due to the current works. We cannot send more runners, we must ensure that the event remains enjoyable for all participants.”

The bib numbers for teams can be picked up on Monday, May 13. “If any places become available that day, they will be distributed among the individual interested parties who have not yet managed to obtain a number,” says Verstraeten.
