Ambitious by nature, Johan Bakayoko will enter the Euros this summer with confidence. Both on an individual and collective level.
In just over a year, Domenico Tedesco has achieved a lot with the national team with not a single defeat and convincing games against England and Germany, but especially with a renewed group.
But all that will soon no longer count when the European Championship gets underway. With his first major tournament in charge of the team, Tedesco will face his first real test.
Johan Bakayoko is looking forward to it: “We really have a fantastic group. If we play like we did against England, then anything is possible, I believe. There are no limits. Different players can make a difference in the team, in different ways. We We will soon know whether we can sustain an entire European Championship. It is a great challenge,” he tells RTBF.
What role does Bakayoko play at the European Championship?
On the right flank, the PSV winger will have something to prove: “Of course I hope to be at the European Championship with the Red Devils […] What can I add compared to my competitors? I am a very complete player, I can do everything in my position. I have everything a modern winger needs.”
Moreover, we get along reasonably well with the national coach: “Tedesco reminds me of our coach at PSV, Peter Bosz. He demands a lot of intensity. On an offensive level, he gives us a certain freedom. This approach suits me well. Defensively, Tedesco asks me to to carry out the necessary defensive actions. Sometimes there are specific assignments, that depends a bit on the matches.”
