LiviosCould your terrace use a makeover before you can enjoy your time there? Then cleaning is a nice first step. With these maintenance tips from the Livios construction site, you will be completely ready for the spring sun.

Be careful with high pressure

Cleaning your patio with a high-pressure cleaner is often not recommended. So be sure to ask the manufacturer about this. Are you going to get started with this device anyway? Then work carefully. Set the pressure as low as possible and the spray head on a wide jet. This way you don’t spray the joints. You can remove stubborn stains with a concentrated jet, but you can achieve the same effect with a scrubbing brush.

De-mossing or refreshing joints? Get started safely.

Remove weeds

The easiest way is to simply pull it out. Make sure you also pull out the roots. A rake or hoe can help you with this. Are the roots deep in the ground? Then it is best to use a knife. Tip: removing mosses between the joints is easier if it has not rained for a few days.

With table salt, hot water or another remedy? This is how you get rid of weeds in a smart way.

What about stains?

In most cases, you can remove grease stains with warm water and a little natural soap, even after a barbecue. For ceramic tiles you can also use an acidic product in combination with water. Just think of vinegar. Never use this on concrete or natural stones that contain lime: grease stains will disappear automatically after a few days of rain.

Cleaning wooden terrace

Do you have wooden decking boards? Then it is best to clean your terrace with a rough brush and a solution of brown soap and water or a mixture of bleach and water to remove moss and algae. Over time, your decking boards will gray naturally due to exposure to sunlight and rain. Do you not want the wood to age? Then treat it with a discolored oil.

Clean composite or plastic terrace

Rainwater ensures natural cleaning of a terrace with plastic planks. After the winter you may need to remove green deposits. It is best to use a soft brush or sponge and soapy water with a little bleach. Rinse your decking boards with clean water.

Clean pavers

Pavers on your terrace? Wipe away leaves regularly to prevent your pavers from remaining damp for long periods of time. This way moss doesn’t get a chance. After the winter, sweep the pavers with a stiff brush and rinse with water. You can then fill the joints again with white sand if necessary.

Clean concrete tiles or pavers

To maintain a patio with concrete tiles or pavers, a thorough scrubbing with soapy water and bleach is sufficient. Pour it over your patio, let it work for a while and scrub away. Rinse again with the garden hose. Do not use a high-pressure cleaner: the water jet can damage the top layer, affecting the color and causing small holes.

Maintain ceramic tiles

Ceramic tiles require little maintenance. They are almost impenetrable, preventing grease, dirt and stains from sticking to the tile. The smoother the surface, the less chance that dirt will penetrate into your patio. After spring, a scrub with a regular cleaning agent is sufficient.

Scrubbing of natural stone

Is your terrace tiled with natural stone? A scrubbing with water and a scrubbing brush is often sufficient. Stains disappear over time under the influence of the sun, rain and wind. In shady places, a small dose of bleach can work wonders. Rinse well with water.

Beware of bleach

Do you use a solution of water and bleach? Avoid letting the soapy water end up in your plants or lawn: it is harmful to your garden. Also watch out for stains on your clothes.
