Four young people, including a 14-year-old, were arrested at Hasselt station on Sunday afternoon. They are suspected of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl. “She has been taken care of in the Care Center after Sexual Violence in Genk and is receiving specialized care,” says public prosecutor’s office spokesman Pieter Strauven.
The LRH police received the report on Sunday afternoon around 4 p.m. Several police teams responded to Spoorwegstraat, at the back entrance of the Hasselt station. “It concerns the suspected violation of sexual integrity, which used to be the crime of ‘indecent assault’,” says Pieter Strauven of the Limburg public prosecutor’s office. “The 15-year-old girl was allegedly sexually touched. The police arrested four young men aged 14, 19, 21 and 28 on the spot. Further investigation should make it clear who exactly did what.”

“The 15-year-old girl was taken care of by the Care Center after Sexual Violence in Genk. There she receives the right care from a specialized nurse and a trained police officer. He will interrogate her in peace and discretion.”
The Care Center after Sexual Violence (ZSG) was founded on February 27, 2023 in the ZOL in Genk. It is the first and only care center in Limburg. In its first year it received 342 victims of rape, sexual assault and unwanted touching. More than 90 percent of the victims were women. The average age was 24.9 years.
