The work is an igloo made from recycled plastic and is by the Dutch artist Luc Sponselee. It had to be the eye-catcher of the Syncope exhibition that is currently taking place in Cortewalle Castle. “Last weekend it was a disaster and vandals had punched a hole in the wall of the igloo,” says David Eeckhaoudt, one of the curators of the Syncope exhibition.

“The artist came by last week to repair the damage. He also placed a ‘camera surveillance’ sign. Unfortunately, it didn’t help because now the perpetrators acted even more brazenly and the igloo was completely destroyed. A bicycle bracket was used to break everything. It was anchored to the ground with concrete, but the perpetrators still managed to pry it loose. It’s a shame that some people engage in such things. We suspect that this is the work of young people, but unfortunately we lack evidence.” The curators call for any witnesses. After all, the work is clearly visible from the N70. Anyone who has noticed something can always report it to the police of the Waasland-Noord zone.
