Architect Alphonse Balat, teacher of Victor Horta, designed a conservatory complex from 1873 onwards that matched the castle in Laeken, built in classical style. The greenhouses took on the silhouette of a glass city, implanted in a hilly park landscape. They were built in Art Nouveau style and a first part was inaugurated in 1880. Several more greenhouses were added afterwards.

Ticket sales started on April 11 and went like clockwork. During the first day, the servers became overloaded and the 148,000 tickets sold out quickly. Yesterday/Thursday the Palace reported that around five hundred tickets were again available, these were previously reserved tickets that had not been paid for and were therefore re-released. They have all gone out by now.
