The members of Groen have chosen their party leaders for the provincial council elections in Flemish Brabant. These will be Tie Roefs from Leuven for the Leuven constituency and Peter Lombaert from Overijse for the Halle-Vilvoorde constituency.

Tie Roefs was a deputy for the province in the past, so with her the party opts for experience. “I bring my experience in the provincial council and as a deputy to work on an energy-neutral Flemish Brabant, more bicycle highways and more space for nature,” she says.

“In addition, the next legislature must mean definitive salvation for the open-air swimming pools in Leuven, Diest and Huizingen. The province also still plays an important role in the field of spatial planning and nature and environmental policy.”

Peter Lombaert is a new face at provincial level. He focuses on clean streams and rivers, a fair climate policy and fair prices for local food. “With a good score, the ambition must be certain to become part of the deputation again and to be at the controls with Groen again during the next legislature,” say the two leaders.

Places 2 and 3 in Leuven are taken by Tom Roovers, alderman in Tienen, and Rina Robben, municipal councilor in Lubbeek.

In Halle-Vilvoorde, Vilvoorde councilor Barbara De Bakker is in 2nd place and municipal and provincial councilor Finke Jacobs from Asse is in 3rd place. In both electoral districts a young person is in fourth place: Kilian Vandenhirtz from Halle and Kenzie Ceusters from Aarschot. (hsb)
