In a video message, Agractie called on Dutch farmers to join her in Brussels for a large-scale protest in mid-April. The exact date is yet to be announced. “The size is full,” said board member Bart Belser.

According to Bart Belser, dairy farmer and cheesemaker in Spijk (West-Betuwe) and a board member of Agractie since March 1, things cannot continue like this. ‘NV areas, buffer strips and the phasing out of the derogation. Farmers are incurring sky-high costs for their manure sales. We have the lowest CO2 footprint in the EU and yet things still need to be tightened up. The EU is mangling the farmer with impossible demands.’ As a concrete demand, Agractie states that the phasing out of the derogation must be suspended. ‘The need is high.’

To European Commissioner

In addition to the call for Dutch farmers to protest en masse in Brussels, Belser also reports that Agractie itself is going to European Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevičius of the Environment. They want to personally bring the problems of the Dutch farmer to his attention.
