Are Aartselaarse Aarsjes a new sweet made in your own region? That is what the Zuidrand Regional Association sent into the world. With this culinary April Fool’s joke, the organization wants to draw attention to existing regional products in the southern edge of Antwerp.
The new pralines, developed by local chocolatier Chocorette, are supposedly the new regional product for the municipality. Based on the existing ‘Kontichse Kontjes’ (which do actually exist), these praline-filled chocolates could be a new hit.
The new delicacy was promoted on Zuidrand social media and the regional association claimed to be giving away 50 samples via the website. Anyone who clicked through quickly discovered that it was an April Fool’s joke. “No Aartselaarse Aarsjes, but a lot of other pralines at Chocorette in Aartselaar,” it said. With this campaign, Zuidrand wants to draw attention to existing regional products. (IT)
