A woman (75) died in a serious traffic accident in Malle on Wednesday. The woman deviated from her lane for an unclear reason and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle. The street is closed to all traffic.

The accident happened just before 2:30 p.m. “A 75-year-old lady who was driving on the Antwerpsesteenweg, coming from Oostmalle, suddenly deviated from her lane at the Steenovenstraat,” says Nick Krols of the local Voorkempen police. “The car collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. A third car could no longer avoid the situation and drove into the second car.”

The emergency services arrived en masse. Unfortunately, all help came too late for the driver of the first car. The 75-year-old woman, from Zoersel, died on the spot. It is unclear how the accident could have happened. “The driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries. A passenger in the third car was also slightly injured,” says Krols.

The Antwerpsesteenweg is temporarily closed in both directions. Traffic must follow a local diversion. The police are on site to direct traffic.
