An American woman lived in the space behind a billboard on the roof of a supermarket in Michigan for a year. USA Today reports this.

The 34-year-old woman had set up her clothes, a pantry with food, and even a desk in the small space – complete with a printer, houseplant and even carpeting. According to a police spokesperson, the space was “just big enough to fit in”.

The woman was spotted in late April by contractors, who noticed an extension cord that was not supposed to be on the roof. When the police knocked on the woman’s ‘home’, she immediately accepted that she had to leave. “Don’t worry, I’m leaving,” she said.

The supermarket staff now calls the woman ‘the rooftop ninja‘, because apparently she could have stayed on the roof for a year without really being noticed. “Every now and then people would see her, but then she would disappear again. No one knew where she had gone, and no one thought she might be staying on the roof.”

The woman will not be legally prosecuted, but will no longer be allowed to enter the store in question.
