The Eurovision Song Contest is a phenomenon that captivates millions of viewers year after year. With participating countries from across the European Union and beyond, this event offers a unique opportunity to embrace diverse cultures and talents. As the tension mounts in the run-up to the grand final on May 11 in the Swedish city of Malmö, eyes are on the favorites according to Spotify’s figures, where the Netherlands scores surprisingly high and Spain remains stuck somewhere in the middle.

At the moment, the betting gives the victory to Croatia and Baby Lasagna, followed by Nemo, the representative of Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest. In third place is Ukraine with an impressive performance simulating the fall of missiles in protest against the Russian invasion of the area.

According to Spotify data, Joost Klein from the Netherlands is the top favorite to win the 68th Eurovision Song Contest. With his song ‘Europapa’ he has achieved more than 4.6 million streams in the past month. This gives him a lead of more than 20% over number two, Angeline Mango from Italy with ‘La noia’ and 3.8 million listeners.

Sweden’s entry with Marcus & Martins and their song ‘Unforgettable’ is in third place with almost 2 million listeners. In fourth place we find France with the song ‘Mon amour’ by Slimane, followed by Greece in fifth place with Marina Satti and ‘Zari’. Ultimately, Nebulossa’s Spanish entry and their song ‘Zorra’ takes sixth place in the top ten.

The bets and Spotify’s list therefore do not match. However, the high streaming figures on Spotify are a strong indication of the popularity of the entries, such as the Netherlands. As more people discover a particular song, the buzz around a performance grows. This can be an important factor in the assessment by the jury and the viewers at home.
