Big news from the Danish court this week: in conversation with the press, a set of special Danish royals revealed that they have welcomed their second child! We will talk to you all the way.

Danish royals

When you think of the Danish royal family, you quickly think of the queen Margrethe, king Frederik, queen Mary, and all their descendants. Also Margrethe’s younger sisters, the Greek queen Anne-Marie and princess Benedikt are of course household names.

But otherwise the Danish royal family remains somewhat out of the spotlight. A small royal house with a strong core, that seems to be the philosophy. In fact, even Margrethe’s immediate grandchildren had to believe it, and so the prince’s offspring were affected Joachim lost their princely titles in one fell swoop last year.

Anyway, the broader royal family is also not standing still. So announced Prince Gustav and princess Carina, the son and daughter-in-law of Princess Benedkeek, recently announced that their second child has seen the light of day!

Princely baby

At Billed Bladet a spokesperson for the couple confirmed the big news. “A spokesperson confirms that Their Highnesses Prince Gustav and Princess Carina have become parents for the second time. They had a daughter. Everyone involved is doing well and they are very happy. The baby was born on Friday April 26.”

Just like with their first little son Gustav Albrecht, the couple had enlisted the help of a surrogate mother from the United States. Little Gustav was born on May 26 last year. Brother and sister are exactly eleven months apart. Sweet!

When the young prince was baptized, it shared Danske Kongehus another sweet family photo of the Danes after the baptism. The godparents included the future King of Denmark, Prince Christian. Not the least name to have as a godfather of course!

Fairy tale

The now 55-year-old prince and princess had to fight hard for their family happiness. The two reportedly met each other in 2003, but they had to wait nineteen (!) years before they could promise each other eternal loyalty.

This was caused by a bizarre clause in the will of Gustav’s grandfather, the late prince Gustav Albrecht of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, which demanded that his descendants had to marry into a party that was ‘Aryan, noble, and Protestant’. A marriage to the half-Mexican, Catholic-raised citizen Carina Axelsson would therefore be out of the question. After a tough battle in court, the younger Prince Gustav fortunately managed to be right.

The happy family still lives in the beautiful Berleburg castle, where they can raise their two sons in peace and quiet. So this fairy tale still has one happily ever after got.
