Music“I know what I can do, and I’m going to give it everything I have.” On Monday when he left for the Eurovision Song Contest, Thomas ‘Mustii’ Mustin (33) showed himself to be particularly combative, and that was noticeable on the stage in Malmö. During his first rehearsal, our national hopes rose douze points itself as a critical candidate. “I am currently not one hundred percent satisfied,” he said.

He certainly wanted to maintain the link with the video clip, play on stage with the contrast between strength and vulnerability and use glitter. And whether Mustii did that, during his first rehearsal in Sweden. The images released by the European Broadcasting Union show the Walloon singer throwing himself into action and appearing to have fun on stage. He also seems to be keeping his previous promises: he opted for a white outfit with a sparkly great, and the microphones from the video clip are also present in Malmö. “I feel good and am happy that I can finally stand on the podium here,” Mustii says from Sweden. “But it was an intense rehearsal. You only get half an hour, so everything has to go quickly. I was able to bring my number three times, and based on that performances my team and I took a lot of notes. There are still elements that I need to refine, and that will be done on the basis of this document. Both the technical and visual aspects still need to be updated. At the moment I am not yet one hundred percent satisfied.”

Although Mustii does not despair. “It is normal that it does not fit completely the first time,” he says. “Later today I have a meeting with my team, and in the coming days we will eliminate those negative points. I have another rehearsal on Friday, and I am confident that everything will turn out well.”

Nerves under control

The fact that there is already footage of the rehearsal is not exactly how Mustii – who has a day of sightseeing on the agenda on Wednesday – would approach it. “I understand that this is how it works in this match, but I find it a bit strange,” he said. “For me it’s a rehearsal sacred and secret. I don’t like showing something that isn’t finished yet. Does that make me stressed? Not that. It’s busy, but I have my nerves under control. I’m very focused, and now those adjustments are the top priority. It has to be good.”

The first rehearsal of Dutch representative Joost Klein is also on the agenda later today. Like Mustii, he will take part in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest. It takes place on May 9.
