Children’s drawing of Dutch princess Beatrix under the hammer: bidding from 4,000 euros | Royalty

--

ROYALTYA children’s drawing by the then 11-year-old Princess Beatrix will go under the hammer on Tuesday evening. The watercolor collage – signed by Beatrix with Trix – depicts thirteen young ladies and a gentleman. You can bid for the artwork with a starting bid of 4,000 euros.

The drawing shows thirteen mainly young women dressed in colorful evening dresses, sometimes alone, sometimes in groups. Below them stands a man in green trousers with a crown on his head, resembling a king. In the corner of the artwork is the artist’s signature: Trix.

This work of art is the work of none other than the former Queen of the Netherlands, Beatrix, when she was between 11 and 12 years old. It dates from 1950 and she donated the work of art to Baroness Rita van Heeckeren van Molecaten, then governess to Princesses Beatrix, Irene, Margriet and Christina. After the death of the lady-in-waiting, the painting was auctioned in 2006 at the Amsterdam auction house Sotheby’s in Amsterdam. “It then raised the enormous amount of almost 12,000 euros,” says Haije Dijkstra, director of auction house Ald Fryslân. On Tuesday evening, Ald Fryslân will put it under the hammer. With a starting bid of 4,000 euros, Dijkstra expects the artwork to fetch between 6,000 and 8,000 euros.

The princess has always been creative because every now and then drawings that Beatrix gave to someone as a little princess still appear. There are old photos of the princess while she is sculpting a statue. She also always encouraged her grandchildren to be creative. When they came to stay, they would paint together in her studio, equipped with a garbage bag cut into an apron by Beatrix herself.
