The Maaltebruggepark, along the Ringvaart near Don Bosco Sint-Denijs-Westrem, is almost at the end of a years-long renovation. The plans also include a renovated bridge and a reopening of the hotel in the park.

The renovation of the Maaltebrugge Park is taking place in phases and has actually been going on since 2020. Then the Park&Ride was redeveloped and a renovated play area was created. In the years that followed, the access bridge was renovated and new paths and seating furniture were added.

The final phase will take place this year. The arch bridge in the park is being renovated: this summer it will be removed for a while to be taken care of by the contractor himself. This will last until September, and in the meantime a new play area will be built on the site of the old playground. (Read more below the photo)

Hotel

Striking: the Hotel Chalet de Maalte in the park, behind the Maaltebrugge castle, wants to reopen. It went bankrupt in 2016 and was even occupied by squatters for a while, but now there are plans to renovate the building.

The owner has already applied for an environmental permit and wants to start the works this summer. When these are over, the hotel with twenty rooms will be reopened. “The Maaltebrugge Park is a beautiful, romantic park where everyone can enjoy nature,” says Astrid De Bruycker (Vooruit), alderman of Public Green.
