Supporter violence has visibly increased again in Belgian football since corona. Not once but several times a match had to be stopped early and that was often due to a lot of dissatisfaction within the ‘ultras’. They now had a surprising forum.
Colored or ravaged?
Matches at Sclessin, in the Lotto Park, in the Edmond Machtens Stadium, Belgian football has sometimes been colored (or plagued?) in recent months and years with a huge uprising within the hard cores of Anderlecht, Standard and RWDM (and of course other teams).
That dissatisfaction is often shaped by the hard cores within certain clubs and often also a select circle of real die hards: the hooligans. They view football not only as entertainment but also as a kind of playground where violence is glorified. Although that aggression is often only ‘permitted’ under certain rules.
Singer gets unique insight
Within that select circle there is often one golden rule: ‘hear, see and remain silent’, the omerta. It is precisely that omerta that is broken in a controversial new Streamz series: ‘The hard core’.
The man behind this report is perhaps even more surprising: none other than Tourist LeMc sought out ‘old hooligan’ Chino from Antwerp and it is he who brings Johannes Faes (real name of the singer) into contact with various hard cores.
The preview that Streamz is now sharing is also promising, the singer comes into contact with the ‘heavy supporters’ of The Great Old, often masked but candid. The series can be seen via the streaming platform from May 2.
