The love had been over between the two for a while, but the matter had not yet been legally settled. The star now reveals the reason for the break in a new episode of her podcast ‘misSPELLING’.

It was an emotional episode recorded just after she filed for divorce. Early in the podcast, Spelling left a voicemail letting her ex-husband know what she had done. “Dean and I had a fairytale romance, even though we were both married when we first met,” she recalled in her podcast. “We left our other partners and came together.”

According to Spelling, the turning point in their relationship was when they had children together. Since then the relationship has “never been the same”. “Suddenly everything revolved around the children and I pushed him aside. I understand him, but it is no excuse for his behavior afterwards.” The former star also stressed that their relationship should never have lasted 18 years. The actress also recalls telling a friend at the time that she would leave McDermott as soon as her children were able to unbuckle their own seat belts. Instead, she had more children with him.

Drunken argument

It was only in June last year that the couple had a decisive argument. McDermott spoke about this afterwards in an interview with the ‘Daily Mail’. “My worst memory of Spelling was the last fight. I was drunk and angry and raged at her and the kids. At that moment I saw the last flame in her eyes go out.” After that argument, he announced on Instagram that he had ended his marriage. A little later he deleted the message. Then McDermott took more pills, hoping he wouldn’t wake up again. In the ‘Daily Mail’ the actor emphasized that he was sorry and happy that he woke up again.

Spelling only filed for divorce last week. According to ‘Entertainment Tonight’, it stated that irreconcilable differences were the reason for the divorce. McDermott’s drinking addiction is cited as the cause of the breakup.

Spelling immediately put her demands on the table in the first document. She is asking for necessary alimony from the actor and physical custody of their five minor children.
