showbizWith an emotional tribute to his deceased father, the Dutch Ziggy Krassenberg (23) has passed with flying colors to the next round in ‘American Idol’. With another standing ovation from judges Katy Perry (39) and Lionel Richie (74).

“I did it, I did it! It’s so cool, but I’m not there yet. The first phase is over, now the next one. We’re starting again, here we go,” shouts an exuberant Ziggy in a reaction video on Instagram.

On Sunday evening Krassenberg performed ‘All I Want’ by Kodaline on the stage of the American talent show as a tribute to his father, who passed away last year. “I know he’s watching me from above.” Ziggy and his father had a complicated relationship – he often felt misunderstood by his father, who, like his mother, was an addict. Contact improved before his father’s death, but Ziggy wishes he could see how proud his father would be of him now that he is competing on “American Idol.”

‘Diva icon’

The performance of Ziggy, who is dubbed a ‘diva icon’ on the show because of his eccentric appearance, impressed judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. They give him a standing ovation, just like during his audition at the end of February. This Monday evening there will be another episode in which it will be announced which 24 talents will continue towards the final.

Krassenberg also participated in the Netherlands in ‘Idols’, ‘The Voice of Holland’ and ‘K2zoekt K3’. His participation in the American talent show is a dream come true. Because Ziggy has aspired to a music career in the United States from an early age, he previously told AD.nl. “I had examples like Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and Beyoncé. I think I fit in much better there. In the Netherlands the mindset is faster: ‘what the farmer doesn’t know, he doesn’t eat’. I have a great personality and am very outspoken, which is much more interesting in America.”

‘American Idol’ is now in its 22nd season. On average, between 4 and 5 million Americans watch the show every week. The program has produced two Grammy Award winners: Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.
