A small earthquake in Formula 1. Engineer Adrian Newey leaves the Red Bull racing team after almost 20 years. With his knowledge of aerodynamics, the Brit was at the basis of the world title-winning cars of Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen, among others. Now he is tired of the rumblings at Red Bull, his departure is guaranteed to be a big loss.

The rumor mill was running at full speed and has now been stopped: Adrian Newey is leaving Red Bull after all.

The British engineer’s departure is scheduled for “the first quarter of 2025”. The team confirmed this in the run-up to the Miami Grand Prix. “We would like to thank Adrian for what we have achieved in the period we have worked together so far,” the statement said.

Newey was the founder of the racing team’s great successes for almost 20 years. His knowledge of aerodynamics allowed Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen to celebrate their world titles with the Austrian team.

This year too, the Dutchman seems to be well on his way to overall victory, but Newey is tired of the rumbling within the team. For example, team boss Christian Horner remained in power despite complaints of inappropriate behavior.

It is not yet known where Newey will go. The British genius is linked to Ferrari.

Will it soon also mean Verstappen’s departure from Red Bull? It promises to be exciting times in F1.

He is my friend. I am forever grateful for what he brought to the team.

Christian Horner

The man in the eye of the storm at Red Bull, Christian Horner, is now saying goodbye to Newey. On Instagram he shares photos of him and the engineer.

“When Adrian joined Red Bull, he was already a superstar. Two decades and 13 championships later, he leaves as a true legend,” Horner praises.

“He is my friend to whom I will be forever grateful for everything he has brought to our collaboration. All our greatest moments of the past 20 years have come with Adrian’s hand on the technical helm.”

“The legacy he leaves behind will linger in the halls of Milton Keynes,” the team boss concluded.
