Every year, Zomerspektakel chooses one or more charities to which they donate a percentage of the proceeds from the festival. We always try to support local projects. This year the choice fell on a special cause: the ALS Foundation.

ALS, full name amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a brutal disease that attacks the motor nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. The result is a gradual loss of muscle function, eventually leading to complete paralysis and often fatal complications. After the first symptoms, people suffering from ALS only have an average life expectancy of 3 to 5 years.

ALS Foundation

This small foundation works tirelessly to realize a world without ALS, PSMA and PLS. Their mission is clear: to mobilize people and resources to raise as much money as possible for scientific research into the causes and treatments of ALS and related diseases. In addition, the foundation also finances projects aimed at improving the quality of care and life for patients and their loved ones.

One of the reasons for choosing Summer Spectacle for the ALS Foundation is the recent progress in technological developments. These advances have raised hopes for a breakthrough in the treatment and cure of ALS. However, to translate this progress into concrete results, financing is essential. That is why Zomerspektakel has chosen to provide the support that the ALS Foundation needs this year to continue their important work.

Parkinson Café and Teus de Kruyf Boxing School

Last year the organization chose to support not one but two causes; both regarding Parkinson’s disease. One of those charities was the Parkinson Café from Alphen aan den Rijn. In addition, the Summer Spectacle presented a check to Boxing School Teus de Kruyf for their ‘Parkinson Box’ program.
