VACCINEREN DOET U NIET ALLEEN VOOR UW EIGEN KIND Sinds 2 maanden ben ik oma van een hele lieve kleindochter, Mira. Ze woont in Den Haag. Helaas een beetje ver weg, maar ik probeer er regelmatig heen te gaan. Haar moeder - mijn dochter - is nu nog met verlof, maar vanaf half juni gaat Mira naar een kinderdagverblijf. En dat is natuurlijk best spannend de eerste keer. Maar mijn dochter is daarnaast ook ongerust. Dat komt omdat de vaccinatiegraad in Den Haag ver onder de 95% is gezakt. De kans dat jonge kinderen ziektes krijgen, zoals de mazelen, is hierdoor veel groter geworden. En zij kunnen hierdoor ernstig ziek worden en zelfs overlijden. Wat als Mira straks ziek wordt door een ander kindje dat niet gevaccineerd is? Deze zorg hebben niet alleen mijn dochter en ik. Want in heel het land worden minder kinderen gevaccineerd. Vorige week stond in de krant: het RIVM start weer met bij elkaar komen. Net als toen voor corona, maar nu voor de mazelen. Want er zijn nu te veel gevallen van mazelen, waardoor er de vrees is voor een grote uitbraak. Mensen, hoe kan dit toch? Waar komt de twijfel over beschermen van kinderen tegen ernstige ziekten toch vandaan? Juist door kinderen te vaccineren kwamen ernstige ziekten zoals mazelen, polio en kinkhoest niet of nauwelijks meer voor. Denken ouders misschien daardoor dat het niet meer bestaat? Maar helaas blijkt dit voor de mazelen en kinkhoest nu toch écht anders te zijn! We weten natuurlijk dat mensen steeds meer vragen stellen en een eigen mening vormen. En dat is goed. Want over vaccineren is op het internet veel te lezen. Hierdoor kan het moeilijk zijn alle informatie goed te wegen waardoor u gaat twijfelen. Dus laat u dan ook goed informeren en stel uw vragen aan de jeugdarts op het consultatiebureau. Hij geeft u graag onafhankelijke informatie. Gelukkig is in gemeente Wijchen bijna 95% van de kinderen gevaccineerd. En daar ben ik als wethouder heel blij om. Want dan krijgen ziektes hier niet zo snel een kans om uit te breken. Maar het aantal kinderen dat gevaccineerd is, daalt ook in onze gemeente. En ik wens, als oma, niet alleen Mira een veilige omgeving toe. Straks op het kinderdagverblijf of over een paar jaar op school. Maar ook uw eigen kindje en alle andere kinderen. Bea Schouten Wethouder

New location for the disabled parking spaces on Europaplein

From Friday, May 10, 2024, the first 2 parking spaces on Europaplein will only be for motorists in possession of a disabled parking card. These are the parking spaces opposite the sloping entrance to the parking garage under Europaplein.

The familiar disabled parking spaces are no longer accessible. This is because the old municipal office is being demolished. Large machines are used for this. To do this safely, the area around this old building is fenced off. The demolition will last until mid-June.

The old municipal office is making way for phase 1, De Burcht, of the Tussen Kasteel en Wijchens Meer (TKWM) project. This will be home to apartments, commercial spaces and a grand café.

Think about the linear flume the Kleine Elst!

In phase 1, the Castle, of the Between Castle and Wijchens Meer project, water plays an important role. The Kleine Elst used to run here.

A water channel that already connected the two pearls of Wijchen, Wijchen Castle and the Wijchens Meer. This water channel is reflected in this project through a linear channel made of natural stone.

This is 200 meters long and still connects the castle with the lake. The municipality wants to engrave a text about the Kleine Elst on the stones. You can think about this!

Quality of raw materials for organic waste in 2023

Thanks for your help! In 2023, residents of the municipality of Wijchen will also have improved their separation of food scraps, vegetable, fruit and garden waste (organic waste). That’s great, because it means Dar can recycle more and more organic waste. For example, we use organic waste as a raw material for compost and green gas. Buses in the region run on this green gas. And compost can be used again in the garden or on the balcony.

Gft container misses
Separating organic waste is already going well in many places in our municipality. We saw that 95% of the organic waste containers contain properly separated organic waste! Sometimes residents still make mistakes when separating organic waste. Dar calls this ‘GFT container misses’. Shame! Because we cannot use organic waste that has not been properly separated as a raw material for new products. So try to pay extra attention to this. The organic waste container misses that we see most in our municipality are:

Cat litter = residual waste
Cans and plastic packaging = plastic+
(Processed) wood = bulky waste
Paper/cardboard = waste paper and cardboard
Animal feces = residual waste

A greener Wijchen, 6 neighborhoods in action

The neighborhood actions for a greener Wijchen are coming! On Wednesday afternoon, May 15, we will take action in Woezik, at the Zesweg Business Park and at Alverna. A week later, on Wednesday afternoon, May 22, we are in Wijchen Zuid, Kerkeveld and Huurlingsedam.

What do we do?
For example, we distribute free plants, flower seeds and watering cans to residents of the neighborhoods. Of course we also provide all kinds of information about making your garden or balcony greener. We encourage residents who want tips on how to easily make a part of their garden, terrace or balcony greener to bring a few photos. Green experts will then look at the possibilities together with them. Talis is also present. They provide information about what tenants can do in their garden or on their balcony. In addition, residents who have registered for a tree, or one of the other beautiful products, can come and pick up their product.

Where is it?
On Wednesday May 15 we will be:

from 12.30 pm to 2.00 pm in the parking lot behind Verploegen, Woeziksestraat 100 in Wijchen (entrance via Veenhof)
from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM at Dorpshuis de Oase, Graafseweg 570 in Wijchen
