VOLKEL/UDEN | Marc and Loek van de Locht from Volkel will hold benefit dinners together with Petja Verweij on May 6, 7 and 8. This is to raise money for their participation in Alpe d’HuZes. The amount goes to the KWF.

“Petja from restaurant ‘Eten bij Petja’ has been getting eggs from me for years. A few weeks ago I went to bring eggs because Petja was busy. We got to talking. His father had recently died of cancer and he had provided a lot of informal care,” says Marc, a chicken farmer in Volkel. One thing led to another: Marc is participating in the Alpe d’HuZes for the ninth time this year with BIG Challenge, farmers against cancer. This year, son Loek will also conquer the mountain.

Benefit dinner
This is how the idea of Benefit Dinners was born. For 66.66 euros per person, guests can enjoy a 4-course all-in dinner. This all-in package includes a welcome drink, matching wines or drinks, table water and four culinary dishes. “I am happy that I can contribute to more cancer research in this way. It is desperately needed,” says Petja. Dinner is from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM. You can register via https://www.etenbijpetja.nl/benefietdiner. “Full is full, so be quick. We have received a lot of sponsorship; of meat, potatoes, vegetables and of course I sponsor the eggs. Farmers provide the food every day. Our Loek, Petja and I want to raise as much money as possible with this dinner for our participation in Alpe d’HuZes and thus contribute to more research into cancer,” says Marc. “It’s great that the wine and coffee from involved suppliers are placed without thinking. And many people volunteer to help in the kitchen and service. Really heart-warming,” adds Petja.

1 million euros
The goal of BIG Challenge is to raise at least 1 million euros by cycling and running during Alpe d’HuZes 2024. But also to express our pride in our food makers. “I know so many people with cancer. Everyone knows that one. I am happy that I can turn my powerlessness into strength and contribute. By participating in Alpe d’HuZes with BIG Challenge, I am trying to give something back. For the struggle that many have to go through. For more quality of life after a cancer diagnosis.”
