Meditating in a yoga studio or during a retreat is not that difficult. It only becomes complicated when you start meditating at home and you are unable to fully surrender to it. The big difference? The atmosphere plays a role, but according to Marjolein van der Aar of Mindful Minute it mainly has to do with loosen up out of your head.

A complete meditation room is not very realistic, but a corner on the couch will also suffice. Decorate it with things that calm you down: lights, affirmation cards and typical scents such as Palo Santo.

Take time for meditation

By creating such a special corner, meditating at home becomes a lot more relaxing. According to Van der Aar, it ensures that you really get the hang of it time so that your mind is no longer focused on the next task of the day. The fewer stimuli you receive, unconsciously or otherwise, the better deeper you get into meditation.

And you certainly don’t have to spend half an hour or an hour for that: one couple minutes meditating can be just as successful. And that is very nice for the end result, because the more meditation becomes part of your daily routine, the greater the benefits will ultimately be.
