Meerssen

The Netherlands Population Survey will start a new round of breast cancer screening in mid-April in Meerssen.

Women aged 50 to 75 who live in the postcode areas 6231, 6235, 6237, 6241 and 6243 will receive an invitation. The research is carried out in a research center in the parking lot next to the De Stip community center at Pastoor Dominicus Hexstraat 10 in Meerssen.

Breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in the Netherlands. About one in seven women in the Netherlands gets breast cancer. By detecting the disease at an early stage, the chance of recovery is significantly increased. As a result of the population screening, between 850 and 1075 fewer women die from breast cancer every year.

The population survey is intended for people aged 50 to 75. They receive a written invitation for the examination once every two years, which is voluntary and free and consists of taking x-rays of the breasts.
