Almost four years after its launch, the Corona Dashboard will come to an end on Tuesday. The government used that platform to inform the public about the outbreak of the coronavirus and the trend in the number of infections. Now that the pandemic is over, fewer and fewer people are visiting the site. It is therefore no longer necessary.

The then health minister Hugo de Jonge announced the dashboard in May 2020. A month later a trial version went online. The dashboard initially only reported the number of positive tests per 100,000 people, the average number of hospital admissions and the number of admissions to intensive care units. Other information was later added, such as the reproduction number, the number of infections in vulnerable people, the number of vaccinations and the number of virus particles in the sewage water.

Worrying and serious

The risk level was also shown on the dashboard, which indicated how quickly the virus was spreading. The positions were alert, worrying, serious and very serious. This was replaced in 2022 by the ‘corona thermometer’.

The data behind the dashboard remains available to researchers. In addition, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) continues to monitor the spread of the virus, for example by measuring the concentrations of virus particles in sewage water.
