Escuma de Mar Sparkling Wine Brut, Spain

© Joris Herregods

Not cava but a “naturally fermented” sparkling wine from Catalonia. More than okay for this price. Very light-hearted, a pure thirst quencher that you don’t have to look much for. Pleasant, thanks to the floral notes and ripe white fruit. “At a sunset on the beach,” we read on the label. Agreed, but served very freshly.

Crémant d’Alsace blanc de blancs brut, Domaine François Schwach, France

© Joris Herregods

A nice discovery, this elegant and subtle crémant from Alsace. Not a powerhouse, but discreet and quite refined. Elegant nose, coulis of lime, lemon herb and white apricot, dry and tight. More power in the mouth, green pineapple, creamier towards the end with a touch of fresh pastry at the end. Quite pricey but versatile: as an aperitif but also with a starter with cold fish.

Bollicina vino spumante extra dry, Veneto, Italy

Not great, but certainly not a mistake for this price. Simply charming, aromas of white flowers, white plum and apricot, soft stimulus. A little bit sweet, but this is immediately countered by the freshness of citrus and lime. Pleasant jousting, even somewhat creamy at the end. A sun-drenched terrace bubble and you can even add a slice of raw ham.

Cava Oro de Uva brut, Spain

© Joris Herregods

Fixed value and it must be said: price/quality cannot be compromised. A more than decent cava, based on the three traditional varieties, for a fair price. Ripe fruit, slightly smoky and pastry in the nose, not surprising because the base wine matured briefly in oak barrels. More tropical fruit in the mouth with a spicy acidity at the end. Nice reception bubble.

Pinot grigio spumante brut, Cucunci, Sicily, Italy

© Joris Herregods

It doesn’t always have to be prosecco. This Sicilian bubble based on Pinot Gris grapes and bottled in a very beautiful bottle, immediately charms with its exuberant aromatic character. Blossoms and white flowers in the nose, just like ripe peach and clementine. Juicy and round, nothing sweet but dry and tight. Ripe fruit well into the final. Summer terrace bubble for antipasti.

A permanent value, this rosé sparkling wine from the Loire based on Cabernet Franc grapes. Year in, year out, correct and flawless, without much fuss but enjoyable to drink. Mix of citrus and small red fruits, orange zest. Good, tight and nervous in the mouth, mineral freshness, slightly more mature fruit in the finale and a pleasant bitterness at the end. Aperitif bubble.

Corvezzo prosecco brut, Veneto, Italy

© Joris Herregods

New on the shelves at Delhaize and a prosecco that immediately reminds you of spring. 100 percent glera and organically grown. Playful and playful in the nose and mouth, first citrus and acacia, then melon and pineapple. Fruity from head to tail, it doesn’t get tiring because it is sufficiently dry with a tingling sour note at the end. Terrace bubble that can even be served after the meal as a nightcap.

Very classic but rock-solid fixture at Spar. Macabeu, xarel-lo and parellada decorate the bottle, very recognizable and well characterized. Floral, citrus, white fruit and some pastry cream. Double blow for this Oro de Uva because the entry bubble is also in our selection. Okay, four euros more expensive, but without a doubt more complete and richer. Smells of roasted almond, pastry cream and candied white fruit. Mineral fresh from the start and yet creamy, full and complete, notes of biscuit at the end.
