Zelensky signed a decree to “remove Sergei Leonidovich Rud from his position as head of the Department for the Security of the State of Ukraine (UDO),” according to the text published by Ukraine. The department is responsible for protecting the president, other high-ranking state officials, and important government buildings.

The Ukrainian security service SBU announced on Tuesday that it had arrested two UDO colonels suspected of having participated in an attack on Zelensky and other high-ranking officials on behalf of Moscow. One of the goals was to recruit soldiers close to Zelensky’s security service to “take him hostage and kill him.”

The war naturally makes President Zelensky an important target for Russia. A few days ago, Russia issued an arrest warrant for the Ukrainian president because he had violated Russian criminal law. In March, a Russian missile struck less than 400 meters from the president during a visit to the city of Odessa with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
