Sonos will reintroduce a number of features in its new S2 app ‘in the coming months’. It came under fire last week because it lacked essential functions such as queues, alarm clocks and support for local music libraries.

Sonos responds to the commotion that arose earlier about its new app. There are dozens of negative threads about this on the Sonos subreddit. Sonos released a new version of the S2 app earlier this week with a completely new UI. Users are not happy about that. There were so many different complaints about this on Reddit that the mods opened a megathread in which users can describe their complaints. There are also dozens of threads with complaints on Sonos’ own forums.

Users complain that basic functionalities are missing, such as adding music to a queue. There is also a lack of support for listening to music through local libraries; users can only listen to commercial music services such as Spotify. It is also not possible to set or adjust new alarm clocks and timers to turn off music after a certain time no longer work at all.

Sonos now says in a statement to The Verge that it is continuing to develop the app. The company calls it “an ambitious step that shows how serious we are about inventing and reinventing.” “It takes courage to rebuild a brand’s core product from the ground up, and to do so knowing we have to take a few steps back before we can move into the future.”

According to Sonos, rebuilding the app was necessary to “introduce new features that users have been asking for for years,” but also to make it easier to introduce new features in the future. Sonos further acknowledges that users are now missing out on certain important features. “We are working hard to reintroduce these in the coming months, along with new improvements that will provide a better app experience,” the company says.
