In 2019, the Slide, the smart curtain system from the Dutch company Innovation In Motion, was released. The project was already presented in 2016, after which it appeared on Kickstarter. At a price of 299 euros, the Slide was certainly not a cheap product, but it was still very successful, as our test in 2020 showed. The Slide makes stupid curtains smart. However, the adventure now comes to a premature end. Innovation In Motion is stopping, according to website Tweakers.

The company has more outstanding debts to the tax authorities than income and is therefore simply unable to continue. Founder Kai Beetstra made himself heard in a video message. The company has been trying to process as many remaining customer orders as possible, but that has now stopped. It is not yet clear what happens to the orders that have not yet been processed.

Can still be used locally

Kai Beetstra from Innovation In Motion is making some adjustments to the Slide app, so that the Slide can also be used outside the company’s cloud. It is already possible to have the smart curtain system function locally via Apple HomeKit and Homey. However, the integration with IFTTT and Google Home will stop, because this would require a connection to the cloud.
