In the search for a new head coach, Westerlo ended up with Timmy Simons (47). The people of Kempen have the former Red Devil at the top of their list and are working hard on a deal.

This also means that they have to find an agreement with Dender, the club that Simons has just guided to the first division and where he is under contract until 2025. Simons himself is already open to a transfer to Westerlo, which despite a difficult season has the ambition and the resources to be more stable. It should become clear in the coming days whether an agreement can be reached at all levels.

Simons started his coaching career in 2018 as an assistant at Club Brugge, where he had retired as a player, also worked in the youth team and then moved to Zulte Waregem, where he was retained in 2022 but was not allowed to stay. In February 2023 he signed with Dender, where he achieved a great stunt. First by keeping the club in the second division and last month by being promoted.

By the way, Vladan Kujovic (45) will be the new goalkeeper coach of Westerlo. He comes from Lommel and replaces Paul Peeters, who is retiring from the first team. (DVD, BDH)
