Lommel still has a chance of promotion to the Jupiler Pro League. The next hurdle is the final of the Promotion Play-offs against Deinze. Strongholds Lucas Schoofs and Jari De Busser have a clear message for the supporters.
A lot of people showed up last Wednesday for the match against Zulte Waregem. 4,250 supporters, it had been a while since the Sovereign Stadium was so full. The enthusiasm in the stands pushed the players forward.
“I played here in front of 700 supporters at the time and now in front of around 4,000 and you can feel it. It is suddenly very loud when you score and also when they start singing. I have only experienced that maybe two or three times while I play at Lommel,” says Jari De Busser.
The players hope that thousands of supporters will come to the stadium again on Sunday for the important first match against Deinze. “That is really a great feeling and I hope it will be the same again on Sunday.”
“That pushes you forward, it is nice for players if it is louder than usual. I find it very enjoyable and I also think we are doing well with that,” said De Busser.
Lucas Schoofs shares his teammate’s opinion. “If we go one round further, there will be even more people. This is what Lommel needs, matches that matter. There are many supporters and a lot of atmosphere and that makes a match at this level fun.”
Watch out for Deinze
Schoofs still remembers the defeat at Deinze and is on his guard. “I don’t think Deinze is our black animal, but we still have an open account after what happened there. I hope the boys still realize that. We know that it is a very difficult opponent and that we will have to pay attention .”
