The BK Gravel was held in and around Turnhout on Wednesday. Many eyes were focused on Toon Aerts, who also hopes to score in gravel racing after his suspension. However, Gianni Vermeersch emerged as the winner.

However, Aerts turned out to be anything but bad. He was in the leading group of six, but had to bow his head in the sprint, resulting in 4th place. His conclusion on his own Instagram page is strict but fair: “Good, but not good enough,” is what it sounds like.

Winner Vermeersch spoke to HLN, he was of course satisfied. “The course was very fast, which made it difficult to make a difference. In the second lap I made a serious effort to drive towards Dries Van Gestel.”

“I thought we had a nice gap, but suddenly a very large group came back. In the last lap it was tough and I put everything on the sprint. With success, fortunately.”
