Beerschot VA was somewhat surprisingly crowned champion in the Challenger Pro League this season and thus rises again to the Jupiler Pro League. But there is currently still a lot of uncertainty regarding the next campaign. The future of coach Dirk Kuyt is also far from certain.
Despite winning the title, Beerschot has had a turbulent season. Shortly after the New Year, for example, coach Andreas Wieland had to say goodbye, who started working in his own country. A suitable successor was found in Kuyt. But in the meantime, things continued to rumble behind the scenes.
As is known, the Antwerp club is largely owned by Saudi investors, called ‘United World’. But that collaboration has been quite difficult for some time. Especially because ‘United World’ often acts ‘disinterested’ and communicates far too little, both internally and externally.
Total exodus threatens
This questionable way of working was not without consequences. Chairman Francis Vrancken also decided to wave goodbye to the club, he was tired because of the state of affairs under ‘United World’. Previously, CEO Frédéric Van den Steen was also lost to OH Leuven.
And Beerschot may soon lose two more crucial pawns. According to The newspapaer It is not impossible that Technical Director Gyorgy Csepregi will also close the gates of the keel behind him. And in that case it seems that Kuyt will also follow his example.
Meeting with shareholders
This would of course be an emergency scenario for the club, as it would lose all the foundations of the past season. But that is not the case yet. Csepregi and Kuyt mainly want clarity. About the available (financial) resources, the sporting ambitions, … . They will make a decision based on that. However, that clarity could soon follow. The shareholders will meet on May 2 and the necessary decisions will probably be made then. Until then, uncertainty remains an issue for the brand new PhD candidate.
