Under the motto ‘everything is possible in football’, Patro opted for a daring attack plan. With a three-man defense and two deep strikers, it immediately pulled out all the stops. Before fifteen minutes, Deinze goalkeeper Miras had to make two great saves to prevent Dansoko and Noubissi from scoring. A free kick later it was a hit: Bammens found Noubissi, who shot perfectly and opened the scoring. Deinze only emerged from the entrapment after half an hour. Prychynenko seemed to aim the equalizer into the goal, but the VAR decided otherwise.

Three strikers

No two without three and so after the break with Sam Bruce, Patro striker number three also appeared on the scene. The visitors immediately camped again in and around Deinze’s sixteen and promptly forced a few corner kicks, with Sigurdarson missing the 0-2 from close range. Deinze got out of the stranglehold after an hour. On the corner, it was Maasmechelaar Kenneth Schuermans who was able to put the ball in and thus deprive Patro of any hope of a stunt. Moments later, Heekeren shot the ball against Souleymane when kicking out. Van Landschoot was grateful for the goalkeeper’s gift: 2-1. This also marked the definitive end of the play-offs for Patro, which had the merit of providing a real cup atmosphere for an hour.

“With the early 0-1 we were immediately on schedule. The intention was to continuously drop the ball in the box and that worked perfectly.”

Yassin Gueroui

“With the early 0-1 we were immediately on schedule. The intention was to continuously drop the ball in the box and that worked perfectly. Even before the 0-1 score, we could have opened the score,” analyzed Yassin Gueroui, captain on duty. “Normally that tie is for Renson, but I asked him to be more communicative with the ref. Too bad we couldn’t make that 0-2, because Deinze became very nervous. It was logical that after an hour we had more difficulty walking through the rooms. And just at that moment Deinze struck. But we ended the season here with our heads held high.”

“I am happy for our supporters, because they deserved this reaction after the off day in the first leg,” agreed T2 Aziz Rejdi. He replaced Stijn Stijnen, who is still waiting for the ruling of the evocation committee and thus had to serve his first day of suspension.
