TikTok will automatically flag content generated using artificial intelligence (AI) when uploaded from certain other platforms. The new measure is part of TikTok’s efforts to increase transparency and awareness of AI, it said.

The social media giant already stipulates that content created using TikTok’s own AI effects will be labeled, and that system will now be expanded to some other platforms as part of the fight against disinformation.

There has been a lot of buzz lately about the authenticity of certain content, now that so-called generative AI interfaces allow the creation of text, images and videos on simple request. For example, the risk of deepfakes increases.

In concrete terms, the tech company will collaborate with the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) and use the coalition’s technology. TikTok is therefore the first social media platform to implement the tool. The new system will be rolled out from Thursday and should apply to all TikTok users in the coming weeks.

Concern

The announcement comes after experts and politicians expressed concern about the possible impact of generative AI tools used to create misleading contact.

“AI-generated content (AIGC) is an extremely creative outlet, but transparency is crucial. By working with colleagues to tag content across platforms, we’re making it easy for creators to responsibly explore AI-generated content, while continuing to discourage the harmful or misleading AIGC that’s banned on TikTok,” Adam commented Presser from TikTok admits the decision.
