Woman survives attack with 13 stab wounds in home: husband suspected of attempted murder (Ghent)

A Turkish resident of Ghent who fatally injured his wife with a knife last week is in jail on suspicion of attempted murder. Miraculously, the woman is out of danger.

“Oh, but he liked her.” This is what lawyer Katrien Van der Straeten says. She represents SE, a Turkish resident of Ghent who went completely crazy after a discussion at the beginning of May. He stabbed his wife no fewer than thirteen times with a knife.

The facts took place in their terraced house in Geuzenberg street, behind the famous chip shop Tolpoort. Local residents were shocked when they saw the emergency services arriving. The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The man was arrested and brought before the investigating judge on May 2. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Last Wednesday the man appeared before the council chamber and it extended his detention.

Serious injuries

The East Flanders public prosecutor’s office only wants to say that the suspect is indeed the victim’s husband. Despite the very serious injuries, she is now said to be out of danger. The couple has two minor children. They will most likely be taken care of by family or friends.

The couple’s home has been sealed by the police since the incident. The shutters are down. Local residents know little about the man and woman. The family was reportedly friendly, but mainly focused on themselves.

Relation

Lawyer Katrien Van der Straeten does not want to provide details because the judicial investigation has only just started. “I would like to emphasize that the man attached great importance to his relationship. He never had any intention of doing anything towards his wife.”

Van der Straeten confirms that her client stabbed his wife a number of times. “But he has always loved his wife and is cooperating with the investigation. This file must now be completed in peace and serenity.”
