A look behind the scenes of Vorsten! The editors give a glimpse of the new issue.
Anneliese Bergman – Editor-in-chief
As editor-in-chief of Margriet, I once made a special edition with Princess Margriet as guest editor-in-chief. What a party that was. She invited me to her home to discuss all the reports. We sat in the garden adjacent to her colorful and cozy living room. After a while Pieter van Vollenhoven joined us. He asked if I had already seen the badger dens and if we needed any ideas. Because he had that in abundance. What a fascinating man, what a wonderful conversationalist and what an original thinker. In this issue you can read how editor Karlijn drives with the professor through the woods of Het Loo.

My favorite production in these Royals is that by Martijn Akkerman about a brooch, a Russian Orange jewel. I never wear brooches, but there is one that I will never get rid of and that is a gold brooch with a photo of my Frisian great-grandmother. I don’t know what kind of woman she was, but she certainly had a photo of herself taken at that time and that was probably special. This brooch will later go to my daughter Sophie.

In Ghent I witnessed a cute moment during the Luxembourg state visit to Belgium. Queen Mathilde receives two bags of chocolate from a royalist spectator. She lovingly tries to attract María Teresa’s attention. In a soft but firm tone: ‘María! Maria! Maria!’ For us it is Madame or Altesse Royale (Royal Highness). For Mathilde: María for short.
