The joint candidacy of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany for the organization of the Women’s Football World Cup in 2027 receives a lower score than that of competitor Brazil in an evaluation report by the World Football Association FIFA. The BNG bid gets 3.7 out of 5 while the South Americans get 4 out of 5.

FIFA published the 182-page report on its website on Wednesday. Many different aspects of the two candidacies are assessed. This includes infrastructure (stadiums, accommodations), marketing, sustainability, human rights and legal themes.

In a conclusion, the so-called Bid Evaluation Task Force states that both candidacies meet the minimum requirements for the organization of the tournament. In their report, the researchers do point out a “high risk” in the BNG file with regard to a number of legal issues. For example, the Belgian section states that FIFA is concerned about a number of provisions included in the legal framework for organizing the World Cup, especially in the agreements surrounding stadiums and host cities. Belgium is putting forward four cities as possible locations: Anderlecht, Charleroi, Genk and Ghent. The compactness and sustainability are strong points in the BNG candidacy.

The 2027 World Cup will be awarded on May 17 during a FIFA congress in Bangkok, Thailand. Mexico and the United States were also in the running for a long time, but decided to withdraw their joint candidacy at the end of April to fully support the organization in 2031.

Last year the Women’s World Cup took place in Australia and New Zealand. Spain won the world title for the first time. The Red Flames could not yet qualify for a World Cup final round.
