One day after the passage of the Reuzenloop, contractor Group Monument started installing scaffolding on the tower of the Peperbus. Once that job has been completed, the restoration work on the tower will start. Delivery is expected at the end of 2026.
In recent weeks there has been a lot of activity in and around the Sint-Jan Evangelistkerk in Sint-Mattheusstraat. Contractor Group Monument carried out preparatory work to start the restoration of the tower. The yard was furnished, floors and art objects were protected and an inventory was drawn up.

Today, Monday May 6, Group Monument started the scaffolding construction of the tower, both on the inside and outside. The construction will probably last until June. Afterwards, the restoration work on the tower will actually start. The roofs, facade and exterior carpentry, among other things, are being tackled.

The work on the Peperbus will take place in three phases, with the interior and exterior being tackled simultaneously. After the tower it is the turn of the nave and the high roofs. This is followed by the transepts, the choir and the low roofs. If everything goes according to plan, the works will be completed at the end of 2026.
