The Flemish Community Commission (VGC) has approved an amount of 884,000 euros for the renovation of 15 school refectories. The project call ‘Renovation of the school refectory’ motivates schools to renovate their refectories and use them for other activities.
The ‘Renovation of the school refectory’ project is based on a pedagogical concept in which health, sustainability, conviviality and tranquility come together to promote overall well-being. An attractive, sustainable and healthy dining area can also serve as play, learning and workplace areas.
“Drinking water fountains, foldable tables and chairs, new floors and lighting, soup warmers and refrigerators, acoustic panels, a lick of paint to custom-made eateries for the little ones. Everything is done to make a refectory a pleasant place that students and teachers can also use for other activities,” says Brussels Minister Sven Gatz (Open VLD), responsible for Education and School Construction in the VGC.
