Three suspects were arrested this week in the investigation into the stabbing in a café in Herentals on March 21. This is reported by the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office. These are two 17-year-olds and a 19-year-old. A 27-year-old woman had also been arrested earlier.

A 36-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries in the stabbing. The motive is said to revolve around the sale of a luxury watch. The facts have therefore been provisionally qualified as attempted robbery and murder.
The facts took place that Thursday afternoon in café Berkemus in Herentals. A man had made an appointment via an online platform to sell a luxury watch to an interested party. Buyer and seller would meet in the cafe. However, when the man entered, he was immediately approached and attacked by two masked people.
The victim was stabbed several times and suffered life-threatening injuries. In the meantime, the man in his thirties is doing better. The robbers stole the luxury watch and fled.
That same evening, the police were able to arrest a 21-year-old woman as the suspected person involved. She is now at home with an ankle monitor. Further investigation led to three more suspects, including two minors. A 19-year-old young man was arrested in Hasselt at the beginning of this week. He has also been arrested. A 17-year-old boy was arrested in Holsbeek on Tuesday evening, who was then brought before the juvenile judge in Leuven. Finally, on Thursday, a 17-year-old boy was captured in Leuven. He will also have to appear before the juvenile judge. The investigation into the precise role of each alleged person involved is still ongoing.
