A fire broke out in the attic floor of a house in the Veldstraat in Rekem (Lanaken) on Wednesday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. The extinguishing works will take quite some time.
The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. The East Limburg fire brigade was quickly on the scene, but the flames were already through the roof. It was very frightening for the residents. “We were sitting outside with the three children when the neighbor suddenly shouted that smoke was coming from the roof,” says the young couple. “We looked up and immediately notified the emergency services. The attic floor is nicely furnished. There is also a bathroom. All the children’s toys and other materials are stacked there.”
The East Limburg fire brigade responded with large equipment and had to break open part of the side of the roof to reach the seat of the fire. The firemen tackled the fire using, among other things, a ladder truck. According to the fire brigade, it may take some time before the fire in the roof insulation and the wood truss is completely contained.
