The young photographer Merel Libersens from Tienen guaranteed beautiful photos. Staf Thomas, Rik Poulman and Anne Somers, the three authors who wrote the accompanying texts, have made their mark in local history or the social life of the city for a long time.

“Kiwanis Tienen-Hageland makes a statement with this book,” says chairman Wim Bergé. “Entirely in the spirit of our core values, this Tienen service club contributes to a more developed, more active and more service-minded society. In concrete terms, she wants to showcase her own environment, the city and its peripheral municipalities, in an inspiring way with this book. She wants to give a strong impetus to present Tienen, both in its glorious past and in its present, as a city where it is good to live and where solidarity prevails. The book aims to give the reader a push to explore the historic city center and surrounding area for themselves.”

Violent rulers

Over the centuries, the population here regularly had to deal with warbands and their violent rulers, often with catastrophic consequences. Fortunately, important monuments were spared from the violence of war in the past. In some neighborhoods the city also retained its typical appearance from the 18th century. Those are the things the authors want to show. Various facets of society are discussed.

The authors will be present at the presentation of the book, which will take place on June 7 at 8 p.m., and passages will be read aloud. Kiwanis offers a drink. The musical accompaniment for this evening is provided by Four Times a Lady, a quartet of professional guitarists.

The book ‘From all sides of Tienen’ has 160 pages and is printed in full color on luxurious paper and with a hard cover. It can be ordered by transfer of 35 euros to account BE86 7340 3006 4450 of Kiwanis Tienen Hageland and can be collected or sent on June 7 after the performance. It can then be purchased in bookstores and at Stadsinfo.
