updateFormer porn star Stormy Daniels continues her testimony today in a high-profile trial against US ex-president Donald Trump. She is being grilled by Trump’s lawyers after she told Daniels in detail about their sexual affair on Tuesday. “You’re going to hear a lot of revelations today,” Trump said firmly upon his arrival at the court.

Susan Necheles, a lawyer for Trump, continued questioning Daniels on Thursday. Once again, the ex-porn star had to justify why she was paid to keep quiet about the sexual affair with Trump in 2006. She had previously said that she wanted to go public with that story in the past.

Daniels was convinced to sign a silence contract in exchange for money. She did not do this for the sake of payment, but for security reasons. “It was a better alternative to protect my story with a clear paper trail,” she testified. Publishing the story would “make me and my family a target,” Daniels further said.

Is Daniels a reliable witness?

The strategy of Trump’s lawyers is clear: portray Daniels as untrustworthy and money-hungry. For example, she was asked about her book contract. ‘Full Disclosure’ was published in 2018 and contains details about her affair with the then president. She was paid $800,000 for it.

Necheles also wanted to know more about the items that Daniels sells in her webshop. Conclusion according to Trump’s lawyer: a large part of the former porn actress’s income is due to her story about the Republican.

Only one juror needs to be convinced of Daniels’ unreliability. The twelve members must decide unanimously on Trump’s guilt or innocence. They can’t come to a decision, a so-called hung jury, the lawsuit can be retried. In this case, that would most likely be after the American presidential elections in November.

Trump is accused of covering up a $130,000 payment to Daniels in 2016. Accounts were tampered with for this purpose. With the hush money, the then presidential candidate wanted to prevent the ex-porn star from confessing about their sexual affair in 2006.
