Eleven people have been injured in an incident involving a Boeing 737 aircraft at the airport of the Senegalese capital Dakar. That’s what the airport operator says. The airport is temporarily closed.

The Transair airline’s Boeing 737 ended up next to the runway during take-off. There were 6 crew members and 79 passengers on board, 11 of whom were injured. 4 of them are said to be in serious condition.

The injured were taken to hospital, the other occupants were taken to a hotel to rest. Video footage circulating online shows terrified passengers fleeing from the burning plane.

The aircraft took off for a flight on behalf of the Senegalese company Air Senegal to Bamako in Mali.

Boeing again

Airplane manufacturer Boeing is in the news in a negative way for the umpteenth time. On Wednesday there was a report that a Boeing freighter had made a belly landing in Istanbul, Turkey. This was because the front wheels had not been unfolded due to a technical defect.

But Boeing has been under fire since January after a door panel on a Boeing 737 MAX 9 came loose during a flight. In early March, a wheel also fell off the landing gear of a United Airlines Boeing 777 shortly after departure from San Francisco. The head of the US aviation regulator FAA recently said the company had recently placed too much priority on production and not enough on safety.
