Gym, cinema and even shark feeding station: company wants to sell luxury submarines for billionaires

You already knew that the richest people on earth already own a superyacht. But an Austrian company wants to go one step further: it will soon offer personalized luxury submarines.

Not only relax in luxury on the water, but in the future also below the water’s surface. That is the goal of the Austrian company Migaloo. They have announced their ambitious plan to launch “the world’s only private submersible superyacht”. That plan should “provide a non-existent alternative to large privately owned surface ships”.

The submarine, currently called M5, is said to be 165.8 meters long and 23 meters wide. The ship would have a sailing capacity of 15,000 kilometers and a speed of up to 20 knots above water and 12 knots below water. But the boat can also be completely personalized. “The desired dimensions of the submarine-yacht hybrid, the exterior styling and the interior design depend on the preferences of the owners.”

Included as standard are a helipad, swimming pool and spa, gym, art gallery, cinema and party room with DJ booth. Optional extras include a hot air balloon and an underwater shark feeding station. Smaller dive boats can also be added, allowing up to 12 guests to hop on those smaller submarines for more water activities.

“Owners are looking for privacy, security and protection for themselves, their guests and their valuables,” says CEO Christian Gumpold on the Migaloo website. Custom security systems will be provided by US partner SAFE, which promises “more than military protection” for what it calls a “private underwater fortress”.

There is no fixed price tag due to the many options the company offers. But it is expected that such an M5 can be obtained from 2 billion dollars.
