Slovak police registered more than 1,300 bomb threats on Tuesday, mainly in schools. There will be an anti-terror investigation into the “extremely large-scale” phenomenon.

The bomb threats were spread in an anonymous email, which was sent to schools, banks and shops. The majority – more than a thousand emails – were addressed to schools. “The emails started coming into the schools on Tuesday from 5 or 6 in the morning,” said Deputy Police Chief Rastislav Polakovic. He speaks of a “particularly serious terrorist attack”.

Several schools received such a bomb threat during class hours, causing classes to be halted and students to be evacuated. For the time being, the police do not provide the exact addresses of the schools that were hit by a bomb threat, but reports were received in every region of the country.

The Slovak police said on its official Facebook page that it is “working at full speed to control safety in schools.” So far, no explosive has been found. The police also started an investigation into the identity of the perpetrators. They risk life in prison.
