“Disturbing”. This is what the White House calls the statements by Kristi Noem, Donald Trump’s possible running mate, about American President Joe Biden’s dog. In an interview she stated that the animal “had to be put down.”

The 52-year-old Noem is governor of the American state of South Dakota and is often put forward to become Donald Trump’s running mate during the American presidential elections later this year. If Trump wins, she would probably become the new vice president of the US.

In the meantime, Noem has come under fire for a recent interview she gave in connection with the upcoming publication of her memoir ‘No going back’. In it, she stated, among other things, that Commander, the dog of American President Joe Biden, “had to be put down” because he had already attacked Secret Service agents several times. “I would ensure that Commander would no longer be present anywhere on the site,” it said, among other things.

The White House has now responded to the statements. “We find her comments disturbing, we find them absurd,” said press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. “We are a country that loves dogs and then you have a leader who talks about killing dogs. Disturbing. I would tell her to stop digging a hole for herself.”

Commander was removed from the White House in October 2023 after 24 biting incidents occurred in less than a year, according to federal intelligence officials.
